Hi, Lisa. The Vancouver Chapter just held its Membership Drive on Thursday, October 8th. We got in-kind sponsorship from the Pan Pacific Hotel that almost covered the food & beverage costs, FedEx Office supplied all of our printed materials at no charge, and we received additional funds from OfficeTeam and from CCI Learning (the Certiport representative here in Vancouver). We had other sponsors who donated items for our swag bags. Most of these were uncovered through one of our committee member's business network.
We are in the midst of conducting a survey of our sponsors and hope to have the results in a few weeks. I personally think that one of the selling points for our sponsors was the fact that we offered up to four months of acknowledgements in our chapter newsletter The Link, as well as advertising on the materials to be distributed at the meeting.
I have set up a Membership Drive e-group here on the IAAP Web Community where we will be posting the results of our debrief. In the meantime, I've posted a Publisher 2000 version of the passport we used at the event. If you have any problems opening the document, just drop me a line and I'll send you one directly.
It's my hope that we can all come together to share tips and best practices for attracting sponsors and holding effective membership drives. Please feel free to join us there.
Oh, one very important thing I forgot to mention - I always pointed out to potential sponsors that I also post articles from our newsletter on the IAAP Web Community (under Newsletter Editors e-group), which is accessible to all 40,000 IAAP members. That's a huge market for anyone looking to get a foot into the IAAP door.
Best regards,

Good evening everyone. I am relatively new to IAAP - just joined in January - and I think I jumped in with both feet as the cliche goes. One thing I am participating on is the Committee planning next year's APW event. Has anyone ever sought corporate sponsorships for their APW event? How did that go? Any words of advice?
Thanks,
Lisa
